Did you know that your water heater is a very reliable appliance?  Though, just like your car and other things that you use on a daily basis, it’s good to maintain them.  To maintain a water heater you will want to flush it out every couple of years.  Being that it’s the beginning of the year, it’s a good time to think about flushing out your water heater and then plan on doing it again in June or July of this year.

Not flushing your water heater can lead to build up of calcium, rust, sand, and other hard-water minerals.  This can ultimately lead to leaks which will shorten the life-expectancy of your water heater.  If you have an electric water heater, the cooler bottom that results in this damage can also become a breeding ground for legionella.

Maintaining your water heater is also going to help keep your gas and electric bills down by allowing your water heater to run more efficiently.

If you’re comfortable with do-it-yourself projects, you can learn how to flush your water heater by going to this Consumer Reports Guide on how to flush your water heater.

If you’re not comfortable with this project, Good Land Plumbing and Construction would be glad to help you properly maintain your water heater.  Just give us a call at (805)968-2730 or email us at goodlandplumbing@gmail.com!
